Our Story

It Started With One Store in Greenville, Mississippi, in 1908.

More than a century later, we still shop the way that first store did: for the good things, at a price that feels smart.

Four Generations, One Good Idea.

1908
A Store on the Delta. A family opens a general store in Greenville, Mississippi.

1932
Quality, for Less. The next generation turns to clothing, buying makers’ extras so neighbors could afford quality. Off-price, before anyone called it that.

1964
The Stein Mart Name. The first store called Stein Mart opens in Greenville.

1977
The Boutique Opens. A designer Boutique arrives, run by women in town who knew good clothes when they saw them.

Today
The Same Eye, Online. The same edit and the same idea, now wherever you are.

The Boutique

The Friends Who Always Called First.

In every town, our Boutique was run by local women who wore the brands they sold. They helped decide what came in, set aside the good pieces, and picked up the phone when something special arrived. In some cities, there was a waiting list to join them.

That is the job we’ve given ourselves online: to be the friend with the inside word.
